Este livro pode ser visto relato semi biográfico de Hemingway contando a sua experiência como tenente no exército italiano na primeira guerra mundial e responsável pelas ambulâncias. Em relação a vida no front e de como a guerra afeta as pessoas, o livro é muito bom e prende bastante o leitor. Já no aspecto do romance com a enfermeira Catherine Barkley acho que o livro perdeu bastaste. Não achei a personagem 100% credível (nos diálogos, principalmente). Não sei se Hemingway ainda tinha feridas abertas deste relacionamento e não conseguiu construir bem a personagem ou se foi simplesmente um trabalho menos bem conseguido do futuro Nobel de literatura.

This book can be seen as Hemingway’s semi-biographical account. He was a lieutenant in the Italian army during World War I being responsible for the ambulances. In relation to the daily life in the front and how war affects people, the book is very good and keeps the reader interested in the story. As for the romance with nurse Catherine Barkley, I think the book lost some quality. Her character is not 100% credible (mainly in the dialogues). I don’t know if Hemingway still had open wounds from this relationship and was not able to build the character well or if it was simply a less successful endeavor from the future Nobel Prize in Literature winner.
