Não há outras palavras a não ser “obra prima” para descrever este livro de Mary Shelley (que tinha apenas 18 anos quando começou a escrevê-lo). Diferentemente da ideia predominante de que seja uma história de terror, Frankenstein esta longe disso. É uma obra incrivelmente densa. A história começa com as cartas enviadas pelo Capitão Walton, que seguia numa missão rumo ao polo norte, a sua irmã. Numa delas ele revela ter encontrado nas aguas geladas do ártico um trenó em mau estado onde se encontrava Victor Frankenstein. Os dois começam uma amizade e o restante do livro é o relato de Frankenstein a Walton contando como chegou até aquele lugar no meio do nada. Ao longo do livro há varias questoes colocadas, desde a busca obsessiva por um objetivo, a dualidade bem-mal e até mesmo o lado religioso. Afinal, se o criador nos fez a sua imagem e semelhança, seria o monstro a verdadeira forma como Victor Frankenstein se enxergava? Um classico que recomendo.

There is no other words but “masterpiece” to describe this book by Mary Shelley (who was only 18 when she started writing it). Unlike the prevailing idea that it is a horror story, Frankenstein is far from it. It is an incredibly dense work. The story begins with the letters sent by Captain Walton, who was on a mission to the North Pole, to his sister. In one of them he reveals that he found in the icy waters of the Arctic a sled in very poor conditions with a weak Victor Frankenstein on it. The two begin a friendship and the rest of the book is Frankenstein’s telling Walton l how he ended on a sled in the middle of nowhere. Throughout the book there are several questions asked, from obsessive goal seeking to the duality between good and evil. There is even some religious musings. After all, if the creator made us to his image and likeness, was the monster be the real way Victor Frankenstein saw himself? This book is classic that I strongly recommend.
